At 10, I received my first film point and shoot camera. From that point, I always had a camera, whether it was a Polaroid or a wind-up. As a teenager, I spent almost all of my babysitting money on developing photos and scrapbooking supplies. My walls were covered (floor to ceiling) in 4x6 photos of my family and friends' smiling faces. After I ran out of room on the walls, I built mobiles with hanging photos. I was obsessed!
Now, my favorite pictures always include my high-school sweetheart, Jan and our two sons, Owen and Ben. In fact, when Jan and I married, I was gifted my first “professional” camera to capture my family's most treasured memories. This collection includes the time we hunted for shark teeth on Emerald Isle, the first time we carved and sailed watermelon boats down the Shenandoah during our annual camping trip, as well as the day we brought home our dog, Rusty. My love for my family and getting to savor these moments with them lit a match to my passion for photography.
For me, it isn’t just about snapping at THE exact moment. It’s the ability to freeze a particular moment in time alongside the magic of replicating a precise feeling – a power the human brain may not be capable of without a printed copy. Collecting these moments of all the people I love and all the times we’ve shared surrounds me in a tapestry of a life well-lived in which I reflect upon with gratitude, but mostly, with love. It is my absolute passion to create this for you as well.
Having a dragonfly land on you is considered good luck.

I love warm sunshine and any body of water—a creek, river, ocean, even a little puddle! My boys would splash in it and my dog would drink from it (it really is the little things). When I'm not behind the lens, I love spending a day out on the Potomac with my family in our boat lovingly named "Thunder Donut" by our youngest, Ben.
I love people.
I love good conversation.
I love friendships that evolve into family.
I'm someone who gets a double "yes" to the trust test:
1. Would you have two beers with this person?
YES!
2. Would you allow this person to look after my puppy over a weekend? YES!
But there's no shame in my donut game! I really do love a good donut. The last time I had my favorite—classic glazed (still warm), I spotted a pair of blue birds in a house the boys hung outside my office window. Cardinals and chocolate frosted also hold a special place in my heart.
I was almost named Dara Noel and even though she didn't make it onto my birth certificate, I like to think she lives on as my alter ego...
Wife/boy mom/dog mom/photographer donning Draper James by day. Dancing under the constellations, singing "Ramble On," and planning her journey to Morocco by night. Don't miss my (hypothetical) biopic starring Kate Hudson!
Love couldn't wait for me and Jan to have the BIG wedding so my dream celebration would be our 10-year wedding anniversary party on the beach in Emerald Isle. Complete with:
- beachy blues and soft greens, shoes optional
- I in a simple, but sexy silk gown with a very low back
- a table for loved ones present in spirit
- and a hippie/bluegrass band pickin’ on hip hop
"Tara is the sweetest and most genuine photographer ever! She is so patient with my little girls and will always go out of her way to bring a smile to our toddler's face. We have had two sessions with Tara and I can definitely say they are some of the best photos/memories we have of our growing family. We will be longtime clients."
She is so welcoming and truly loves what she does. I'm so very awkward when it comes to photos and posing for them and I honestly don't know what to do with my hands. But Tara is the very best at putting me and my family at ease during photo shoots. She doesn't mind literally getting in the dirt for the perfect shot. She is on time and ready for your moment in the spotlight and knows just the right moments to capture. Tara is great with kids, really knows how to get and keep their attention. So whether just starting a family or have a well established one, With Love, Tara is the way to go for all of your photography needs.
I highly recommend it!
